Therapy FAQs

It starts with a short consult to make sure we are a good fit. From there, your first session covers paperwork, consent, and your story. Most clients meet weekly or every other week at first. How long therapy lasts depends on your goals, and we check in on progress together.
-
Yes. What you share in therapy is confidential and protected by law. There are a few legal exceptions, such as a risk of serious harm to yourself or someone else, suspected abuse or neglect of a child or vulnerable adult, or a court order. We review these limits with you before therapy begins.
-
Sessions happen by secure video from a private, quiet space. You need a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera and a stable internet connection. You must be physically located in Louisiana or Washington at the time of each session.
-
Private pay is available. We will talk through fees, payment options, and whether insurance can be used during your consult, so there are no surprises. If you pay out of pocket, you have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of your costs.
-
Yes. Life Essentials centers Black, Brown, and multicultural couples and families, and everyone is welcome. Culture, family history, and faith are part of the conversation, not something you leave at the door.
-
Yes. Latrina is licensed in both states: as an LPC-S in Louisiana, and as an LMHC in Washington, which is what Washington calls its licensed counselors. You can meet by telehealth from anywhere in either state.
-
The Gottman Method is a research-based approach to couples therapy. It helps partners build friendship, handle conflict with less damage, and create shared meaning. Latrina blends it with Emotionally Focused Therapy and other approaches to fit your relationship.

We are not available for immediate intervention. If you are in crisis, call or text 988 to reach the Suicide and Crisis Lifeline, text HOME to 741741 to reach the Crisis Text Line, or call 911 in an emergency.
Your right to a Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who do not have insurance, or who are not using insurance, an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises.
